This painting is an important addition to the catalogue raisonné of the French painter, Aubin Vouet, brother of the better known artist, Simon Vouet, who was strongly influenced by Caravaggio. There is no doubt about the autograph nature of the work, which was reproduced in an engraving by Michel Lasne, with an indication of the artist on the lower left border, “A. Vouet pinxit”. We are grateful to Prof. Emilio Negro for confirming attribution.
